Governor Steve Beshear in a recent press conference made positive statements regarding the monies promised from the state level in order to further the BRAC initiative.
The governor visited Fort Knox on March 23rd to announce which projects will be undertaken with the first $100 million for infrastructure work to prepare the area for the realignment.
The press conference was held on the grounds of the new Human Resources Command location. Building plans are roughly 50 - 75% complete. Local, state and federal dignitaries were on hand as were construction workers from the area. Since the signing of the BRAC initiative in 2005, many have heard that the economic climate was going to grow and bring much needed security for Ft. Knox and surrounding communities. While the waiting has been intense...BRAC is here! There is finally a silver lining in the dark cloud of uncertainty. Builders, bankers, businesses has all been holding their collective breath. Citizens of the surrounding communities are also bracing for what will mean more traffic on our roads, changes in our schools and more! While change may be hard and growth somewhat painful, deep in the hearts of many is a true desire to embrace it! Here is a timeline tale from the website oneknox.com This site will be especially useful for those wishing to secure a federal civil service. You should check the site frequently for hiring symposiums, etc. Here are some more photos of the Governor's speech and of the Human Resources Command...a building that spans almost 100,000 square feet! |

Here is your estimated time table. Be expecting folks to arrive from Ft Hood, TX by late this summer and into the fall. This should be an increase of roughly 3,500 folks. That's soldiers, spouses and children. |
