OK, Karen Allenn says I got some bragging rights coming so here she goes...along with comments taken from an article written by Jacob Bennett!
"Having a job you love "ROCKS!" Raymond Dowdell will tell you as much! He has run Avatar Records at 1627 North Dixie in Radcliff for the past 19 years and says it still doesn't feel like work! This music lover spends his days surrounded by music, listening to music and talking with people who also have a real passion for...music! Raymond lives in Elizabethtown and is a graduate from East Hardin High. Let's just say when he heard the Beatles , he was hooked! In fact when the Beatles invaded America, Avatar Records was born in theory until Raymond could make it a reality!
In Case you missed it, The Beatles are Raymond's all time favorite band! They helped him fall in love with music followed by the sounds of Iron Maiden, Gamma Ray, Helloween, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath! Actually, Raymond told me there are hundreds of favorites for him...too many to name really!
Aside from Sundays, Avatar Records is only closed for six holidays and when Raymond and his buddies head on down to the Prog Power Festival in Atlanta. Ask him about his "blown out knee trip" sometime...he's even got mug shots! Raymond in pain...Raymond not in pain! He even drove a standard with his bum knee! Really you gotta ask him about that!!! Otherwise his shop is open Monday - Saturday, 10am till 9pm! Customers are doing more than shopping too when they come in! Raymond has a magnetic personality and loves to engage people into fact finding conversations and music sharing sessions! He's also a pro at remembering the names and tastes of his customers and for me that's a huge +!! He's not shy in his own atmosphere surrounded by his true love...music! He's somewhat addicting actually and I think he needs to add a few extra chairs for when folks just want to come over to shop and jaw! When asked if he feared he would grow to hate music or grow tired of it, he says that hasn't happened yet! He'll go from the store into the car and pop on the radio! Basically, when the joy is gone, so will he be!
In the meantime, Raymond makes shopping for your favorite music an experience! Stop in sometime and tell them Karen sent ya!
